The Caterer’s inaugural People Network event on November 5 at London’s One Moorgate Place brought together industry leaders dedicated to transforming people and workplace culture in hospitality.

Opening the conference, Trudi Parr, Head of People and Development, Mollies outlined “Project Perception,” discussing hospitality’s image as a career and the need to be authentic and positively highlight inspiring career paths to attract talent.

UKHospitality’s CEO, Kate Nicholls OBE addressed industry-wide challenges and shared an optimistic perspective on the recent budget, highlighting "there is light at the end of a long dimly lit tunnel." Chris Eigelaar, Resort Director, The Belfry Hotel & Resort joined to discuss The Hoteliers’ Charter, which sees businesses commit to a series of employee welfare principals. The charter is now under the stewardship of UKHospitality and is being refreshed and opened to all hospitality operators next year.

Jodi Goldman led and interactive coaching session and encouraged professionals in the room to develop “magnetic confidence” and recognise their value and amplify their visibility and influence in the workplace.

Emma Simpson, People and Culture Director, Gleneagles, shared how setting out clear expectations, creating real progression opportunities, underpinned with a culture of care had transformed recruitment and retention over the past few years.

Robyn Filep and Eleni Kasparis, Co-Founders, Becoming presented on positive psychology which reminded all on the importance of allowing people to play to their strengths, to improve energy, engagement, and retention.

Lorraine Copes, Chief Executive and Founder, Be Inclusive Hospitality presented a keynote on diversity, equity and inclusion, urging leaders to delve into their data to truly understand diversity, equity and inclusion within their business, concluding “Hospitality is a brilliant industry, however in acknowledging that we also have to confront that there are many areas that need to evolve forwards and equity is one – nothing changes until something changes.”

Michelle Moreno brought the conference to a close with an empowering workshop which created a space for professionals in the room to connect and share personal success stories to encourage a brighter workplace future.

The day served as an inspiring reminder of the changes leaders can make in shaping a positive and thriving hospitality workplace culture.
